State of the Union
I began my weight loss journey more than 600 days ago. Here are some of my stats to date: I weighed 257 lbs on May 27, 2019. I weighed 203 lbs on Jan. 17, 2020. I weighed 190 lbs on Jan. 17, 2021. Exactly four months ago, I hit my lowest weight so far at 188 lbs. Just one more pound and I could say I lost 70 lbs! But I still haven’t reached that goal. Maintaining I learned how to maintain my weight in 2020. It wasn’t intentional. The goal was to keep losing until 100 lbs were

Reset
Six days from now, I was supposed to be running 13.1 miles in Louisville. Thanks, COVID-19. But maybe that sarcastic gratitude carries a hint of truth. The fact is, I'm not ready. About a month ago, my training took a turn for the worse. I didn't let up; I kept doing my 4 runs each week and was reaching all my goals up to that point. Then 30, 40, 50...now 60 is on the horizon. I ran for 3 minutes straight. Then 5, 10, 20, 30...Looks like I'll surpass 90 on Friday. On Tuesday, I got to say, "I did it!" once more. I made it to Onederland. If you're unfamiliar with the term, Onederland is a big deal in the world of weight loss. It means you

Mitzi Runs a 5K
I have desperately avoided running all of my life. I played sports when I was younger: Basketball, softball, even track and cross country (for a short stint). But I hated when I had to sprint down the court when the other team got the ball or barrel toward first base after a hit trying to beat the throw from the infield. However, after consistently walking two miles virtually every day over the summer and into the fall, a thought occurred to me: If I can walk two miles daily

Losing Myself
I have lost 50 lbs. since Memorial Day. I have never seriously tried to slim down before. Sure, I would announce, “Alright, that's it. I’m going to eat healthy from now on,” and my new willpower would last about a week. I just love food. More to the point, I love the not-so-good-for-you food. And lots of it. Before Memorial Day, I would occasionally hike or walk around the neighborhood with my husband and the dogs, but it was never a major, habitual undertaking and rarely hea
